DESCRIPTION: We have been retrained by the Department of Ob/Gyn in a prestigious metro New York academic medical center to locate a Certified Professional Coder whose prime responsibility will be to provide subject matter expertise to providers and staff on proper documentation, coding and billing practices. This person will review, analyze and assure the final diagnoses and procedures as states by the practicing providers are valid and complete. He/she will accurately code office and hospital procedures for providers for surgical and other specialized complex procedures. There will also be some auditing and monitoring of compliance related activities within the department.
Specific responsibilities include:
Abstract surgical and obstetrical delivery documentation and apply accurate CPT codes.
Provide feedback to providers to ensure compliant documentation and coding.
Maintain current knowledge of changes to coding requirements and share with providers and staff.
Maintain up to date knowledge of proper documentation and assignment of all procedural and diagnostic coding. Maintain certification education units (CEU) to maintain knowledge and CPC certification.
Teach providers and clinical staff to document accurately.

EXPERIENCE: Our client seeks a candidate with either CCS-P or CPC certification coupled with at least three years’ experience working with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding in a multi-specialty physician or outpatient facility; Ob-Gyn coding experience is preferred as is a bachelor’s degree. In addition, he/she must possess knowledge of documentation requirements, National Correct Coding Initiative edits, LCD and physician/outpatient hospital billing requirements including reimbursement methodologies. The successful candidate should have prior third party billing, charge capture and practice management experience. He or she must have a high level of Microsoft Office software knowledge and Epic software knowledge is strong preferred.
